Turkey for you, turkey for me...

One of my favourite things is holiday movies. Mixed Nuts is a big one for me, not - depsite the subject - due to Adam Sandler, but because of Madeline Kahn. Rapping.

It pretty much rules. You know what else does? "I... I hated her so much... Flames on the sides of my face... Burning..."

Ahem. Anyway. I am at the parents, on the lake, able to look out over the water and see the stunning fall colours. I can smell burning leaves on the air and turkey in the oven. My ear infection seems to be getting under control, and I'm not in a whole lot of pain. BSG is tonight after dinner on Space, since we're a day behind. We're taping it to bring home so some friends can avoid downloading. I am pretty excited about it. It's not such bad day at all.

Watched The American President today - the proto-West Wing. I really like that movie, might have to buy it. The first few times I saw it after TWW started up, it freaked me right out to see Martin Sheen as Chief of Staff. It also makes me miss the hell out of Michael J. Fox.

The bus ride up here was hell. Leaving Toronto is hell these days, and someone needs to do something about the traffic - it apparently took the 2:30 bus FOUR HOURS to get up here... and it's usually a 1:45 ride. That's just wrong. The Toronto bus terminal is not made for the kind of business it's handling, and people get grouchy down there. Man. I am thinking that I will look into a GO train/bus thing to get partway there next time we head in this direction - it would be nice to avoid the stupidity.

Anyway, dinner's soon. I ought to go before I get bugged about playing with my new computer again. ;)

I try to stay in town for long weekends as much as possible for that very reason. I have no patience for lines, traffic or anything resembling either. I could not be a commuter or a 905er. Ever.

I love holiday movies. Especially the old cheesy ones. I also consider most musicals to be holiday movies by default. I love Holiday Inn, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Of the current crop, I liked the one ABC Family did a year or two back with Tom Cavanaugh called Snow.

I played hookey from work and housework today and caught a matinee of The Last Kiss. Why do I love Zach Braff so much? I didn't realize til I saw the credits roll that Paul Haggis wrote the script and it was shot in Montreal. I liked it. I definitely want to see the Italian film it was adapted from now, though. I guess I'm trying to figure out why they felt compelled to set it in Wisconsin.

I need to write a spec script and am having trouble getting inspired. Thinking about doing Men in Trees, just because I think it will be easier. Really want to do New Adventures of Old Christine but the story is not cooperating with me. It just isn't feeling right.

Happy Thanksgiving. May your trip home be faster and may you receive many turkey leftovers.

I couldn't commute ever either - there's an editor at work that lives in the same town as the parents, and I cannot understand how he manages that drive EVERY DAY.

Holiday Inn is a fun movie. Home for the Holidays is a recent one that's enjoyable - I like the movies that get a feel of how insane the holidays can be when you fill a house with people who are related. I think there's a lot of neuroses that are either inherited or learned, so wackiness ensues. ;)

Al I can think of when I see Tom Cavanaugh is 'If I wanted water, I'd ask for water.' Holy dating myself, Batman!

Zach Braff is awesomely funny, and I think that's a big part of his likeability. I love watching the Scrubs DVDs we have - and t's the whole cast that rules, but he's got a great sense of self-deprecation. I relate to that. Heh. Wisconsin, though? Maybe because of cheese?

Men In Trees seems interesting so far... hasn't caught me yet. Nothing wrong with writing something easier, in my mind... well, something that's coming to you easier. If it doesn't feel right, there's not much you can do to force it. I would think, anyway.

I am going to tackle a spec soon - I am thinking Heroes, but I need to wait for a few more episodes before I can go ahead with it. I love superheroes, so it seems like a good match, despite the fact that it's such a new show.
